چکیده
Electrokinetic (EK) techniques can effectively mobilize amendments and contaminants in porous media therefore have a great potential for situ subsurface remediation of wide variety organic inorganic contaminants. However, the fundamental mechanisms governing EK applications are complex entail coupling between different flow, transport, electrostatic geochemical processes. In this study we investigate interactions density driven effects electrokinetic transport permeable compare observed dynamics with outcomes analogous scenarios which advection dispersion only mechanisms. We perform series multidimensional experiments demonstrate strong interplay Coulombic among charged species pore water density-driven during electrokinetics. Our illuminates non-trivial composition macroscopic behavior variable dye tracer plumes, showing sinking floating patterns, distinct plume shapes spreading, as well extent mixing depending on chemical water. A numerical model, based Nernst-Planck-Poisson formulation code PHREEQC, was developed to simulate flow update aqueous solution resulting from all injected surrounding electrolyte. The model allowed us interpret visualize impact small gradients tracer. highlight importance also where not influence concentration but affect result behavior, radically ones generated advective-dispersive transport.

Pore network model of electrokinetic transport through charged porous media.
We introduce a method for the numerical determination of the steady-state response of complex charged porous media to pressure, salt concentration, and electric potential gradients. The macroscopic fluxes of solvent, salt, and charge are computed within the framework of the Pore Network Model (PNM), which describes the pore structure of the samples as networks of pores connected to each other b...

Electrokinetic coupling in unsaturated porous media.
We consider a charged porous material that is saturated by two fluid phases that are immiscible and continuous on the scale of a representative elementary volume. The wetting phase for the grains is water and the nonwetting phase is assumed to be an electrically insulating viscous fluid. We use a volume-averaging approach to derive the linear constitutive equations for the electrical current de...
متن کاملTransport Property Estimation of Non-Uniform Porous Media
In this work a glass micromodel which its grains and pores are non-uniform in size, shape and distribution is considered as porous medium. A two-dimensional random network model of micromodel with non-uniform pores has been constructed. The non-uniformity of porous model is achieved by assigning parametric distribution functions to pores throat and pores length, which was measured using ima...

We study scalar mixing in heterogeneous conductivity fields, whose structural disorder varies from weak to strong. A range of stretching regimes is observed, depending on the level of structural heterogeneity, measured by the log-conductivity field variance. We propose a unified framework to quantify the overall concentration distribution predicting its shape and rate of deformation as it progr...
